Summer Exploration Series: Geology at Thunder Cliffs with TINS

As part of the Tahoe Summer Exploration Series, the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) have partnered to provide summer excursions on a variety of nature-based topics.

Join the TRTA and TINS along the impressive Thunder Cliffs for an unforgettable hike and interpretive talk! Learn about the massive, geologic, forces that helped create the Tahoe Basin as we travel back in time to look at the formation of the lake, and how these forces are still at play today. Naturally, there will be some mention of local flora and fauna on the way to the Cliffs as well. ~6 miles roundtrip - moderate difficulty.

What to Expect

TRTA outings are group outings, and we do our best to keep the group together. Trip leaders dedicate much of their time throughout the year, sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. Please respect their decisions made on the trail.
