Don and Lynn Harriman lead an informal birding group at the Upper Truckee Marsh most Wednesdays, year-round, and on this day Will Richardson with TINS will be joining them to explore the sights and sounds of one of Tahoe’s best birding spots. July and August here can be really fantastic for shorebirds when the lake is low, but this year, with the lake so high, we’ve been waiting for the lake level to drop to create shorebird habitat. We’re hoping that by August 23rd the lake will have dropped enough that a few shorebirds will be working the edge of the lake, and that some early migrant songbirds and other species will be found in the willows and wetlands of the marsh itself.
Note that we may opt to wade across the outlet of Trout Creek, so you may want to bring footwear and shorts or pants that you don’t mind getting wet! Feel free to email Will regarding water depth and conditions beforehand.
No need to register for this outing; just show up! We traditionally meet at the corner of Lily and Bellevue avenues: https://goo.gl/maps/yyky1x7E1egf1ceY7
