Jr. High/High School Camps

Youth Back Country Camps (YBCC)

YBCC - Mt. Rose Wilderness - This popular program is intended as an introduction to backcountry travel and living skills for younger teens. Participants should expect to be hiking between 2 and 7 miles per day, with one day spent constructing a new portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail. This program is fully supported by the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) and the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS). There will be two qualified guides to lead the trip who will provide food, camping gear, permits and transportation to and from the trailheads. Participants only need to provide shoes, clothes and a passion for the outdoors!

Dates: July 28-30

Cost: $225; Scholarships available on a first come first serve basis.

YBCC - Wilderness First Aid - Focusing on outdoor leadership, team building, backpacking skills, and the physical challenges of hiking, YBCC2 participants will have the unique opportunity for personal growth while bonding with the other participants in the stunning Sierra Nevada. This program is fully supported by the TINS and TRTA. There will be two qualified guides to lead the trip who will provide food, camping gear, permits and transportation to and from the trailheads.  Participants only need to have their personal gear, clothes and hiking shoes.

Dates: July 14-18

Cost: $335; Scholarships available on a first come first serve basis.

YBCC - Desolation Wilderness - Focusing on outdoor leadership, team building, backpacking skills, and the physical challenges of hiking, YBCC3 participants will have the unique opportunity for personal growth while bonding with the other participants in the stunning Sierra Nevada. This program is fully supported by the TINS and TRTA. There will be two qualified guides to lead the trip who will provide food, camping gear, permits and transportation to and from the trailheads.  Participants only need to have their personal gear, clothes and hiking shoes.

Cost: $395; Scholarships available on a first come first serve basis.

Instructors for YBCC will be provided by the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science and/or the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.  Registration for all High School Camps is through the TRTA (775.298.0012, link).
